Peace River (L6)

Peace River (L6)

The Peace River bolide detonated in the earth's atmosphere at 4:35 AM on March 31, 1963 and was visible for over 100 miles. A field investigation set up by the National Research Council of Canada in conjunction with the Royal Canadian Air Force and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, gathered significant information regarding the dynamics of the meteor. They recovered a total of 49.3 kgs of stones, the largest being 16.6 kg.

The 17.6 gram piece above has three cut sides, a bit of black fusion crust and boasts a museum number of unknown origin.
