Tucson Ring (Ataxite)

Tucson Ring (Ataxite)

27.7 gram cut fragment from the Tucson Ring mass. The Tucson meteorites were first recognized in 1850, one called the Carleton mass and the other the Ring mass. As its name suggests, the Ring mass was shaped like a large ring. Both masses were used by local blacksmiths as anvils. The Ring mass currently resides in the Smithsonian Institution. Deaccessioned from the Mile High Meteorites Collection.
