Krasnojarsk (Pallasite)

Krasnojarsk or the "Pallas iron" was discovered by Yakov Medvedev, a blacksmith from the village of Ubeisk. It was not until the German professor Peter Simon Pallas journeyed to the town of Krasnojarsk, Siberia in in 1772 that the odd piece of iron became quite famous. The specimen was placed in the "Hall of Curiosities" (begun by Peter the Great) and termed the "Pallas iron". In 1825 Gustav Rose classified all of the stony-iron meteorites as "Pallasites". This end cut weighs 282 grams.
